Washington State University professor joins UBCAFA faculty

In a move to produce more competitive graduates in architecture and fine arts, the University of Bohol thru its president Lawyer Victoriano B. Tirol, Jr., accepted the application of Engr. Larry S. Chalmers to join the faculty of the College of Architecture and Fine Arts as visiting professor, starting this school year 2011-2012.

Chalmers, a graduate of BS Engineering in Oregon State University and post graduate study at Harvard University taught graduate courses in Project/Construction Management at Washington State University of Oregon. He managed his own firm, A&E that designed over 70 medical, aviation and college/university projects including aviation projects for the FAA in Saipan, Guam and American Samoa. Most recently, Chalmers provided programming, preliminary design and project management services for a new hospital for The Queens Health System in Hawaii and the new Key West International Airport Terminal.

In a courtesy call made last June 3, 2011 at the UB President’s Office, Lawyer Victoriano B. Tirol, Jr. stressed that in-spite of the good track record of the College of Architecture and Fine Arts, the university still pursue for a more performance enhancement among its students to conform with foreign standards. Tirol further confided the plan to construct a hospital, a hotel and a community type mall to expand other services to the Boholanos. According to the UB president, the school have the man power pool to maintain a hospital as it produces nurses, midwives, physical therapists, pharmacists, caregivers , and dieticians. In the area of tourism industry, the university have graduates in tourism, hospitality and restaurant management and tourism services. It has been observed that all hospitals in the province are congested. More so, the present rates in many of our hotels are very expensive.

Arc’t German Torrero, UAP, CAFA dean, welcomed the entry of Arc’t Chalmers to the faculty as this will benefit the students. (L.A.BONCALES)
