UB Days set on Sept. 16-23; annual stockholders meeting on Sept. 24, 2011

With barely four days to go, everything is set for the holding of the University of Bohol Days from September 16 to 23, 2011, this according to Engr. Lemuel O. Belarmino, head, Students Affairs Office (SAO).

The one week celebration of sports festivities, personality contest, academic, literary, musical competitions, and variety shows will showcase the bests among the departments. The annual event will kick off on September 16, 2011 with an athletic parade and a grand opening program at the university quadrangle. A cheer dance competition will follow in the evening. On Sept. 17 (Saturday) – athletics competition (CPG Sports Complex/ UB Gym/UB Quad), “Battle of the Bands” (Quad); Sept. 18 (Sunday) – rest day; Sept. 19 (Monday) – athletics competition, debate (IRC), heritage games and dance showdown (Quad/Gym); Sept. 20 (Tuesday) – athletics competition, academic contest “Battle of the Brains” (Gym), musical competition “An Afternoon of Music” (Gym/Quad) and Mr. & Miss UB Personality- talent night (Quad); Sept. 21 (Wednesday) – athletics competition , community outreach and literary contest “Tirol Medals” (Gym); Sept. 22 (Thursday) – fun run, athletics competition(VDT-ALC Oval), VDT-ALC Open House, field demonstration (VDT-ALC Oval) and Search for Mr. & Miss UB Personality (Quad); and Sept. 23 (Friday) – grand floral parade, salute to the champions (Quad), awarding ceremony and alumni night “Party for all UBians” (Quad). Early on Sept 15, an acrobatic show will take the center stage at the university quadrangle at 5 pm.

Meanwhile, stockholders of the University of Bohol will gather on September 24 (Saturday) at 10:00 o’ clock in the morning for their annual stockholders meeting to be held at New VDT-ALC Campus at PeƱaflor St., Tagbilaran City. UB tankers grab 5 gold, 34 silver,13 bronze in Milo Little Olympics


Sixteen swimmers from the University of Bohol Rockets Swimming Team made big waves in the recently concluded 16th Milo Little Olympics (Swimming Division) held last August 13-14, 2011 at Cebu City Sports Center.

Patrick Louie Birad, a grader of the Victoriano D. Tirol-Advanced Learning Center (VDT-ALC) led the team by grabbing 5 gold and 6 silver medals during the competition. Birad likewise broke two meet records by clocking 1:06.69 in the elementary boys’ 100-meter freestyle to erase the previous mark at 1:10:11 established in 2007, and registering another 31.59 time in the 50-M butterfly event to replace the oldest record of 31.76 set in 1996. He rank No. 1 in the Visayas elementary boys division and qualify for the Milo National Finals in Lingayen, Pangasinan. On the same vein, Donald Jack Gibb also of VDT-ALC bagged 4 silver and 1 bronze and ranked No. 9 in the Visayas elementary boys division. Gibb also qualified for the Milo National Finals.

Other swimmers included, Kyle Christian Lim – 4 silver, Jason Ginn Lopena – 4 silver, Florabelle Kaye Ibale – 2 silver, Nathalie Deanne Fredensborg – 4 silver, Dea Tsyna Saco – 3 silver, Falliesse Karyl Ibale – 4 silver, Emma Alexandrite Duroy – 3 bronze, Sheena Mae Janas – 3 bronze, Emma Sapphire Duroy – 3 silver, Dyza Bianca Saco – 3 bronze ,Precious Ginn Lopena – 3 bronze, Apollo Pranku Fucanan, Frnzeello Keam Ibale and Jericho Taal.

University of Bohol got the championship trophy in the elementary division (swimming event) and ranked 4th place in the over-all standing of 70 participating schools. Mr. Vincent J. Indig is the swimming coach. (L.A.Boncales)

UBCN class ’86 hold reunion

For 25 long years of practicing their professions here and abroad, the members of Class 1986 of the University of Bohol College of Nursing (UBCN) took a break and returned back to their Alma Mater for an exciting homecoming last July 7-9, 2011.

With the by-word, Nurse nga Bol-ano da best! , the proud members of the White Hygieans Class ’86 held a 3-day activity to rekindle their camaraderie as former nursing students of the university. Started with a Eucharistic celebration at the Information Research Center (IRC) auditorium, the batch members held an introductory program with UB President Victoriano B. Tirol Jr. and Dean Isabelita G. Margate as guests. During the ceremony, the official roster of the class was read by Ms. Jesuah Retutas-Villamor, class president, followed by the awarding of White Hygieans Class ’86 project to the school.

On the second day, the class conducted a community service at Tinibgan, Maribojoc through distribution of goods to selected families. In the evening the former classmates were treated with sumptuous dinner and surprises during the gala night at the Metrocentre Hotel. As a recap, a family day was celebrated by the UBCN alumni with their families at Dumaluan Beach Resort last July 9, 2011.
