UBDHS batch ’90 on its platinum anniversary

The University of Bohol Day High School (UBDHS) class of 1990 has celebrated with a resounding success, its platinum grand reunion last July 24-25, 2010.

The two day reunion which also coincided with the class’ 20th year anniversary had formally started with a courtesy call to Dr. Lumin T. Pamaran, VP for academics and former UB day high school principal. A program took place in the afternoon at the UB Instructional Research Center followed by an evening socials and cocktail party at the Metro Centre Hotel.

On the second day, the members have distributed bundles of joy to the adopted school of UB and conducted a tree planting activity. The affair was culminated with a beach party among family members of the class.

UB/RPC alumni association holds general assembly

The University of Bohol/Rafael Palma College Alumni Association, Inc. (UB/RPCAAI) has held its general assembly last July 24, 2010 at the Instructional Media Center (IMC) of the university.

Hon. Jorge D. Cabalit, MCTC judge of Catigbian and incumbent alumni president presided over the meeting which was attended by the members of the board, batch members of high school class 1990 and other alumni.

Vice Mayor Nuevas T. Montes, VP for administration, gave updates on the new developments of the university including the incoming investure ceremony for the installation of the 3rd president of the university, Atty. Victoriano B. Tirol, Jr., this coming December, 2010.

UB/RPC board of directors include, Col. Teofisto Cabagnot, vice-president, Col. Cesar Pamaong, Prof. Reinerio Agusto Real, Engr. Maurito Lim, Mr. Tony Wycoco, Dr. Lino Garsuta, Dr. Carolina Belarmino, Atty. Greg Austral and Mr. Jojo Enerio. Atty. Jose V. Torralba is the immediate past president. (LAB)

UB debaters at VMDC semi-finals

The University of Bohol Debating Team has made it to the semi finals during the Visayas-Mindanao Debate Championships (VDMC) held at Silliman University in Dumaguete City , last July 23-26, 2010.

Members of the team include Glenn Manigque- 4th year BSED-SPED, Ivaraxel Ericson- 2nd year AB-Political Science and Faith Kristie Tabel, 3rd year BS Psychology. Lawyer Brian Gaviola, professor of the AB department is the team’s coach and chaperon.

The British Parliamentary format was adopted during the semi-final competition which was participated in by 65 teams coming from 17 universities. (Mitch Wong-Guillena)

NYC conducts dialogue


The National Youth Commission (NYC) represented by Commissioner for the Visayas Area Benjie S. Oliva and NYC Head for Visayas Queenie Dadulo has conducted a “Dialogue with the Youth.” to the students of the University of Bohol at the Instructional Media Center (IMC) last July 29, 2010

Under Republic Act 8044 otherwise known as the “Youth in Nation-Building Act”. The National Youth Commission is primarily responsible in registering, helping and facilitating the establishment of youth organizations and youth serving organizations. It is also tasked to formulate a national framework for youth development in the country. The current programs of the NYC include, Ship for Southeast Asian Program, Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO), Government Internship Program, National Youth Parliament, Local Youth Development Program, Youth Legal Aid Program, and the Kabataan sa Mindanao Natin (a comprehensive advocacy-training program on the culture of peace, human rights and the indigenous people).

Dr. Janice Aurora B. Tirol, SPS dean, warmly welcomed the NYC guests to the university. The event was attended by the student leaders and members of the different Campus Student organizations led by Donald Curan and James Obedencio, UBSSG president and vice president respectively. Aimee Rose J. Lofranco 1st place winner Visayas Culture Page Writing Competition -Secondary Level

VDT-ALC students win honors in 10th Nat’l Youth Congress

Two high school students of the Victoriano D. Tirol, Sr.- Advance Learning Center (VDT-ALC) bagged honors during the 10th National Youth Congress held in Baguio City last July 1-3, 2010.

James Okusa and Axelle Manhilot placed 4th and 5th in Mathematics and Spelling contests respectively. The congress was sponsored by the Private Schools Administration Association of the Philippines (PRISAAP). The 15 member delegation of the University of Bohol who attended the congress has competed in all literary musical contests which was also participated in by more than forty private secondary schools nationwide. Other delegates include, Liej Leonidez Alas, Teresa Carmelle Segovia, Racealle AG NiƱo Mendez, Ken Vincent Ancog, Gedaliah Garcia, Hazel Ann Pergamino, Precious Ginn Lopena, Oonah Mae Mortejo, Ebishai Castro, Trishia Torero, Dorothy Jane Salas, Ariane Faye Lim and Remee Camille Gabuya. Mrs. Gemma Tagab, guidance counselor and moderator of the Pupils Supreme Council of VDT-ALC is the teacher chaperon. (Mitch Guillena-Wong)
