Copyright infringement seminar held

The Office of the Vice-President for Academics and the Institutional Research Center of the University of Bohol jointly conducted a seminar on copyright infringement to all members of the academic council and faculty members of the university last June 1, 2011 at the IRC auditorium.

The activity is part of the school’s institutionalized faculty development program in relation to the publication of manuals, hand-outs, books and other researches of the teachers. As the university encouraged its teachers to do some research works, it is also observed that few have over-looked pertinent laws on intellectual rights and properties of the authors. Some students are even using photocopied books inside the classrooms instead of buying one. The UB administration ensures that all academic endeavors of its teachers and students must be within the bounds of existing laws.

Lawyer Bryan O. Gaviola, college professor, presented the overview of the seminar on A Closer Look at Infringement, while Lawyers Alma E. Aparece, dean, UB Office of Planning and Development and Gregorio O. Austral, CPA, dean, College of Law, discussed the topics on Educational Impact and Legal Implication, respectively. The activity was opened with a prayer led by Dr. Ricardo Bullecer, program chair on secondary education and a statement of purpose by Dr. Lumin T. Pamaran, vice-president for academics. Lawyer Victoriano B. Tirol, Jr., UB president, delivered an inspirational message to the participants. After the open forum, the program was formally closed by Dr. Euxodita E. Lomaad, mathematics coordinator. (L.A.Boncales)
