THE HONOREE Atty. David B. Tirol (in barong tagalog)
sings his favorite song with the members of the academic
and administration councils during the honoring party.

In an event dubbed as A Night of Love and Memories, the University of Bohol has tendered a memorable tribute to honor its immediate past president Atty. David B. Tirol at Garden Square, Panglao Island Nature Resort, Panglao Bohol last January 22, 2010.

Members of the board of trustees, academic and administrative councils, faculty, employees, guests and the immediate family of the honoree were all in attendance to grace the affair.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Lumin T. Pamaran, VP for Academics highlighted some significant contributions of Atty. David Tirol as university president. During his presidency, UB emerged as one of the country’s premiere university and employee friendly. The school was able to forged close partnership with non-government and people’s organizations in community development and likewise strengthened the school’s working scholars program to help the poor but deserving students to continue their studies.

During the testimonials, Mrs. Emma Circulado-Castillo former GSP provincial executive and student of Atty. David Tirol, remembered the honoree as a brilliant and dedicated professor. Dean Liberato H. Lupot, Jr. of the College of Engineering described the former president as sincere, fatherly and a man who is determined to succeed. On the other hand Dr. Ammon Dennis Tirol, son, exalted Atty. Tirol as an ideal father who is always willing to sacrifice himself for the welfare of his children.

In response, former president David Tirol expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the whole UB family. In retrospect, he reminisced the humble beginning of the institution as then Rafael Palma College. Having served the school for 59 years, Atty. Tirol traced back his first job as stenography instructor in 1950 when he was 17 years of age. Through the years he rose to higher ranks until he became university president succeeding his father Atty. Victoriano Tirol, Sr.

As a retiree, Atty. Tirol continues to look forward to the future of the university he once served. “UB does not belong to anyone of us, but to the larger community. UB does not only exist for today but also to the future”, Tirol pointed out. He emphatically expressed his confidence and thrust that the university will continue to soar with the stewardship of the incumbent president Atty. Victoriano B. Tirol, Jr, his younger brother and former regional director of DepEd. (L.A.Boncales)
