UBCN class ’86 hold reunion

For 25 long years of practicing their professions here and abroad, the members of Class 1986 of the University of Bohol College of Nursing (UBCN) took a break and returned back to their Alma Mater for an exciting homecoming last July 7-9, 2011.

With the by-word, Nurse nga Bol-ano da best! , the proud members of the White Hygieans Class ’86 held a 3-day activity to rekindle their camaraderie as former nursing students of the university. Started with a Eucharistic celebration at the Information Research Center (IRC) auditorium, the batch members held an introductory program with UB President Victoriano B. Tirol Jr. and Dean Isabelita G. Margate as guests. During the ceremony, the official roster of the class was read by Ms. Jesuah Retutas-Villamor, class president, followed by the awarding of White Hygieans Class ’86 project to the school.

On the second day, the class conducted a community service at Tinibgan, Maribojoc through distribution of goods to selected families. In the evening the former classmates were treated with sumptuous dinner and surprises during the gala night at the Metrocentre Hotel. As a recap, a family day was celebrated by the UBCN alumni with their families at Dumaluan Beach Resort last July 9, 2011.

Kyungin Women’s College and University of Bohol; English Language Training Program

UB president lauds teachers

“The teacher is the heart of the community and society. Any activity in the community will never succeed without the teacher”, says Atty. Victoriano B. Tirol Jr., president, University of Bohol.

Speaking before the candidates for internship during the 23^rd pinning and candle lighting ceremony of the College of Education held last June 17, 2011 at the UB gymnasium, Tirol congratulated the students for having made the best decision in taking up education course and for studying at the University of Bohol. As former regional director of the Department of Education, the university president shared his personal expertise and experience in public education which he served for 33 years. Tirol further exalted the teachers of their noble task as front-liners in the fight against illiteracy.

Meanwhile, Prof. Elaine Joy B. Auza, UB High School principal and guest speaker, encouraged the student candidates to be the catalyst in transforming the lives of the students. She stressed that the purpose of education is not merely making a person learned but having him educated. Thus, making knowledge useable for the betterment of oneself and the society. Speaking on the theme, The heart of Education is the education of the heart, the young school administrator confided that what is dignified, gentle, poetic and artistic in the human spirit is the most important part in educating a child.

During the ceremony, the candidates for internship were presented to Dr. Carolina O. Belarmino, college dean, by Dr. Ricardo P. Bullecer, BEED & BSED trainees supervisor, for recognition and acceptance. Also in attendance were the parents, members of the Board of Trustees, and faculty members of the College of Education. UB T/HM class successfully organized provincial confab

The old adage , Actions speak more than words, was again immortalized by the Events and Management Class of the College of Tourism/Hospitality Management of the University of Bohol when it successfully organized and hosted a provincial convention on Turning Skills to Cash: Harnessing Abilities as a Gateway to Better Opportunities, last March 21, 2011 at the Bohol Cultural Center, this city. The said activity is the application of what they learned from their tourism class.

The event was divided into 3 parts, First - Know the Facts (Learn and Earn) which dealt on the skills of the resource speakers and how they were able to earn out of it. This part includes three sub-titles namely, Love for Crafting: There’s Cash in Flower by Ms. Evangeline N. Dahonog, Distinction for Taste: There’s Cash in a Discriminating Palate by CHEF Erlito Victoriano – executive chef, Crown Regency Hotel, Cebu, and the Love for Crafting: There’s Cash in Brilliant Mind by Mr. Joey ‘Tweng’ Dolotina, freelance event organizer/poi juggler/artist/creator , Arte Malaya Movement; Second – Take it From Us (Been There, Done that), a forum about the Hospitality Industry wherein the speakers shared their thoughts on certain issues and experiences in the industry with CHEF Erlito Victoriano, Ms. Maria Antonette M. Bolo, president, Bohol Federation of Travel and Tour Operators (BOFETTO), Mr. Joseph Ruel Familiar, president, Bohol Island Tour Guides Association of the Philippines, Inc. (BITGAP), and Ms. Nicel Jean Alivio, University of Cebu, professional flairtender/student , University of Cebu HRM; and Third – Show What you’ve Got (Bring it on to the Spotlight), a skills competition in Flower Arrangement using indigenous materials, Cocktail Mixing with the native wine tuba as the base ingredient and Tour Guiding where attractions of certain towns were shown.

With the joint cooperation of the Bohol Tourism Office and the Department of Trade and Industry, the organizers were able to draw participation of tourism and hospitality students from Holy Name University , Crystal-E College and University of Bohol who actively participated during the convention. The tourism class that organized the said convention is under the advisories of Professors Jane Doren Bungabong and Charles Erwin Suico with Dr. Maria Asuncion Laxa-Bersabal, college dean.

The convention was graced with the presence of Ms. Maria Soledad Laxa Balistoy, division chief of business development, Department of Trade and Industry and CHEF Erlito Victoriano of Crown Regency Hotel, Cebu. UBSSG treats students with a red carpet welcome

The University of Bohol Supreme Student Government (UBSSG) in coordination with the Student Affairs Office and Student Personnel Services, held recently a short program and activity welcoming students of the university during the opening of classes last June 6, 2011.

Edison Delantero, UBSSG president- elect, together with the other officials of the student government personally escorted the new students to their buildings and rooms and oriented them with the school facilities and amenities. The UBSSG also conducted free t-shirt printing and distributed free sim cards, ballpens and other freebies to the new enrollees.

In an interview, Delantero disclosed that the activity is part of the organization’s thrust in establishing strong camaraderie among students and in working harmoniously with the school administration. The whole UBSSG officialdom is slated to be inducted this coming June 24, 2011 in time of the general acquaintance at the university quadrangle.
