Sixteen swimmers from the University of Bohol Rockets Swimming Team made big waves in the recently concluded 16th Milo Little Olympics (Swimming Division) held last August 13-14, 2011 at Cebu City Sports Center.
Patrick Louie Birad, a grader of the Victoriano D. Tirol-Advanced Learning Center (VDT-ALC) led the team by grabbing 5 gold and 6 silver medals during the competition. Birad likewise broke two meet records by clocking 1:06.69 in the elementary boys’ 100-meter freestyle to erase the previous mark at 1:10:11 established in 2007, and registering another 31.59 time in the 50-M butterfly event to replace the oldest record of 31.76 set in 1996. He rank No. 1 in the Visayas elementary boys division and qualify for the Milo National Finals in Lingayen, Pangasinan. On the same vein, Donald Jack Gibb also of VDT-ALC bagged 4 silver and 1 bronze and ranked No. 9 in the Visayas elementary boys division. Gibb also qualified for the Milo National Finals.
Other swimmers included, Kyle Christian Lim – 4 silver, Jason Ginn Lopena – 4 silver, Florabelle Kaye Ibale – 2 silver, Nathalie Deanne Fredensborg – 4 silver, Dea Tsyna Saco – 3 silver, Falliesse Karyl Ibale – 4 silver, Emma Alexandrite Duroy – 3 bronze, Sheena Mae Janas – 3 bronze, Emma Sapphire Duroy – 3 silver, Dyza Bianca Saco – 3 bronze ,Precious Ginn Lopena – 3 bronze, Apollo Pranku Fucanan, Frnzeello Keam Ibale and Jericho Taal.
University of Bohol got the championship trophy in the elementary division (swimming event) and ranked 4th place in the over-all standing of 70 participating schools. Mr. Vincent J. Indig is the swimming coach. (L.A.Boncales)
