“The teacher is the heart of the community and society. Any activity in the community will never succeed without the teacher”, says Atty. Victoriano B. Tirol Jr., president, University of Bohol.
Speaking before the candidates for internship during the 23rd pinning and candle lighting ceremony of the College of Education held last June 17, 2011 at the UB gymnasium, Tirol congratulated the students for having made the best decision in taking up education course and for studying at the University of Bohol. As former regional director of the Department of Education, the university president shared his personal expertise and experience in public education which he served for 33 years. Tirol further exalted the teachers of their noble task as front-liners in the fight against illiteracy.
Meanwhile, Prof. Elaine Joy B. Auza, UB High School principal and guest speaker, encouraged the student candidates to be the catalyst in transforming the lives of the students. She stressed that the purpose of education is not merely making a person learned but having him educated. Thus, making knowledge useable for the betterment of oneself and the society. Speaking on the theme, The heart of Education is the education of the heart, the young school administrator confided that what is dignified, gentle, poetic and artistic in the human spirit is the most important part in educating a child.
During the ceremony, the candidates for internship were presented to Dr. Carolina O. Belarmino, college dean, by Dr. Ricardo P. Bullecer, BEED & BSED trainees supervisor, for recognition and acceptance. Also in attendance were the parents, members of the Board of Trustees, and faculty members of the College of Education.
