UB posts high passing average in LET

The University of Bohol College of Education recently added feather on its cap when it posted high passing average of its examinees in the April 3, 2011 Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET), given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

Dr. Carolina O. Belarmino, dean, disclosed that for this year’s licensure examination the university marked a 100 % passing percentage in both Bachelor in Elementary Education major in Special Education and Bachelor in Secondary Education major in Physical Science. Meanwhile, the school also garnered 83% and 73% passing percentage in Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEED) and Bachelor in Secondary Education (BSED) respectively. The national passing average rate is only 15.81% for BEED and 26.28% for BSED.

US in need of more physical therapists

The United States of America, the leading employer for physical therapists in the world is in need of more therapists to meet the demand of the American public. This was the pronouncement made by Dr. Jeimylo de Castro, dean, UB College of Physical Therapy and Allied Medical Sciences.

Dean de Castro revealed that the American Hospital Association (AHA) previously declared that physical therapists represent the occupation for which the greatest percentage of vacancies exists in hospitals across the American nation, at 11.4%. Within the span of 8 years, the projected growth for physical therapists employment is 27%. Earlier in 2006, 58% of the hospitals in the U.S. reported that therapist recruitment became more difficult, thus prompted former Congressman Joseph Abrose Sestak Jr. of Pennsylvania’s 7^th congressional district to add physical therapists into the “areas of national need”. The said pronouncement was then supported by American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) President R Scott Ward, PT, Phd. who likewise claimed that the demand for physical therapists existed across the nation. The need for more therapists is still prevalent among the states in America.

With the over production of nursing graduates in the country, many students started to shift to physical therapy as another gateway for employment both local and abroad. According to de Castro, Boholanos are very fortunate to have a college on physical therapy in Bohol as it will lessen expenses among students who want to enroll the course. Presently in the province, only University of Bohol offers Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (BSPT). (L.A.Boncales)

UB bares 10 CPAs, 4 civil engineers

The University of Bohol College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) displayed another academic feat when 10 out of its 20 examinees successfully hurdled the May 2011 board examination for Certified Public Accountants (CPA), given by the Philippine Regulation Commission.

Dean Cesario Edulan, CPA, college dean, disclosed that the school’s 50% passing percentage is above the national passing average which is 40.5%. Shortage of pharmacists seen

Philippines is in need of more pharmacists, this is the common observation among business establishments indulged in dispensing and manufacturing drugs that ventured in publishing their job hiring even outside Bohol only to invite applicants.

The same observation is shared by Miss Eva Campeciño, dean UB College of Pharmacy, whose office continuously received phone calls and letters from managers of leading companies in the country, inviting graduates and passers of the university to work with them. According to Campeciño, the present trend in enrolment for 1st year pharmacy is increasing. Some of the new enrollees have previously enrolled in other courses.

At present, the demand for pharmacists is both local and abroad. Fortunately in the province of Bohol, Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BSPharm) is offered at the University of Bohol. (L.A.Boncales)

Leadership training and strategic planning for students

In line with its corporate social responsibility to develop future and effective leaders, the Students Affairs Office of the University of Bohol conducted a two-day Leadership Training and Strategic Planning to all officers and members of accredited student organizations in the university last May 25-26, at the Information Resource Center (IRC) Auditorium.

During the activity the students have undergone lectures and workshops conducted by known student leaders and professional lecturers. The panel of speakers were, Mr. Metodio B. Maraguinot Jr., national president, Kabataang Pangarap ni Rizal – Leadership Training/Seminar and Workshop; Atty. Alma Aparece, dean, UB Office of Planning and Development – Seminar Workshop on Strategic Planning; Ms. Christine Rose Fabio, guidance counselor – Lecture on Problem Solving and Decision Making; and Ms. Leah Wilfreda Pilongo, social science coordinator – Lecture on good grooming and personal conduct of a leader. Engr. Lemuel Belarmino, SAO head, Atty. Brian Gaviola, Ms. Siarol Divino, Ms. Lucea Cabatingan and Mr. Hubert Inas, CPA served as facilitators.

The whole activity was graced with the presence of Atty. Victoriano B. Tirol, Jr., UB president and Rev. Fr. Crisilo Alipoyo, BACS Tagbilaran Diocesan Superintendent and governor of the UB Graduate Studies. (L.A.Boncales)

DepEd, UB on K+12 orientation

In an awful display of cooperation and support, the Department of Education, Division of Bohol and the University of Bohol jointly conducted an orientation on K+12 among the UB school administrators and faculty members in elementary, high school and education department last May 24, 2011 at the Information Research Center (IRC) Auditorium.

Asst. Superintendent Bianito Dagatan, Division of Bohol, personally handled the K+12 orientation while Dr. Lorna T, Rances, schools division superintendent delivered a talk on the present thrust of the education department under Bro. Armin Luistro, DepEd secretary.

During the open forum, questions and concerns from the participants were entertained and noted by the DepEd staff. Atty. Victoriano B. Tirol, Jr., UB president and strong advocate of the K+12 program also pointed out probable scenarios affecting private institutions during the transition period of the implementation. Some points raised were subjected for referral to the central office.
