Shortage of pharmacists seen

Philippines is in need of more pharmacists, this is the common observation among business establishments indulged in dispensing and manufacturing drugs that ventured in publishing their job hiring even outside Bohol only to invite applicants.

The same observation is shared by Miss Eva Campeciño, dean UB College of Pharmacy, whose office continuously received phone calls and letters from managers of leading companies in the country, inviting graduates and passers of the university to work with them. According to Campeciño, the present trend in enrolment for 1st year pharmacy is increasing. Some of the new enrollees have previously enrolled in other courses.

At present, the demand for pharmacists is both local and abroad. Fortunately in the province of Bohol, Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BSPharm) is offered at the University of Bohol. (L.A.Boncales)

Leadership training and strategic planning for students

In line with its corporate social responsibility to develop future and effective leaders, the Students Affairs Office of the University of Bohol conducted a two-day Leadership Training and Strategic Planning to all officers and members of accredited student organizations in the university last May 25-26, at the Information Resource Center (IRC) Auditorium.

During the activity the students have undergone lectures and workshops conducted by known student leaders and professional lecturers. The panel of speakers were, Mr. Metodio B. Maraguinot Jr., national president, Kabataang Pangarap ni Rizal – Leadership Training/Seminar and Workshop; Atty. Alma Aparece, dean, UB Office of Planning and Development – Seminar Workshop on Strategic Planning; Ms. Christine Rose Fabio, guidance counselor – Lecture on Problem Solving and Decision Making; and Ms. Leah Wilfreda Pilongo, social science coordinator – Lecture on good grooming and personal conduct of a leader. Engr. Lemuel Belarmino, SAO head, Atty. Brian Gaviola, Ms. Siarol Divino, Ms. Lucea Cabatingan and Mr. Hubert Inas, CPA served as facilitators.

The whole activity was graced with the presence of Atty. Victoriano B. Tirol, Jr., UB president and Rev. Fr. Crisilo Alipoyo, BACS Tagbilaran Diocesan Superintendent and governor of the UB Graduate Studies. (L.A.Boncales)

DepEd, UB on K+12 orientation

In an awful display of cooperation and support, the Department of Education, Division of Bohol and the University of Bohol jointly conducted an orientation on K+12 among the UB school administrators and faculty members in elementary, high school and education department last May 24, 2011 at the Information Research Center (IRC) Auditorium.

Asst. Superintendent Bianito Dagatan, Division of Bohol, personally handled the K+12 orientation while Dr. Lorna T, Rances, schools division superintendent delivered a talk on the present thrust of the education department under Bro. Armin Luistro, DepEd secretary.

During the open forum, questions and concerns from the participants were entertained and noted by the DepEd staff. Atty. Victoriano B. Tirol, Jr., UB president and strong advocate of the K+12 program also pointed out probable scenarios affecting private institutions during the transition period of the implementation. Some points raised were subjected for referral to the central office.

UB bares new electrical engineers

The University of Bohol College of Engineering and Technology recently produced new registered electrical engineers who passed the April 2011 Board Examination given by the Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC).

Engr. Liberato H. Lupot, Jr., college dean, revealed the six new successful examinees as Engr. Eugene Quino Ayento, Danao Bohol; Engr. Bryan Peligro Cipriano, Mabini Bohol; Engr. Keith Lemuel Rabaca Dagoldol, Tubigon Bohol; Engr. Joel Yudelmo Gutierrez, Dauis Bohol; Engr. Raffy Lansang Mejorada, Loon Bohol; and Engr. Eric Brua Peligrino, Baclayon, Bohol. (m.guillena)

UB posts 100% passing average in caregiving examination

Consistent with its thrust in providing quality education, the University of Bohol Caregiver Program under the College of Physical Therapy and Allied Medical Sciences, posted another feat when nine examinees passed out of nine students who took the TESDA Competency Assessment Examination for Caregiving National Certificate II, held last March 30,2011 at St. Martha Skills Training and Assessment Center, Tagbilaran City.

Dr. Jeimylo C. de Castro, college dean, disclosed the names of the new caregivers as, Joshua T. Buntod, Nilia L. Busano, Cristito O. Caybot, Jr., Jean Crislyn O. Caybot, Jovelyn A. Dionisio, Marchiel B. Golosino, Mary Grace B. Jaspe, Rosalinda S. Namulata and Susana B. Simodlan. According to de Castro, the consistent 100% passing rate among UB examinees is attributed to the highly qualified instructors, adequate and modern facilities and work exposures.

Presently in the province, only the University of Bohol offers a caregiver program in a university level category. Under this level, the students aside from the usual classroom discussions can also avail of the medical/dental services, fully air-conditioned lecture rooms, complete library, student services wherein the students have their assigned guidance counselors, equipped instructional media center ,and efficient internet centers. The school also specialize training centers for the practicum to include; University of Bohol Medical Rehabilitation Center, IMAP Lying-in Center for Obstetrics and Pediatric, Ramiro Community Hospital for in-patient exposure and Soledad Suites for hotel exposure, and home care. UB vehemently denies reports on closure of first year nursing

“The enrolment for first year students in the University of Bohol College of Nursing is still going on”, this is the categorical statement made by Atty. Victoriano B. Tirol, Jr., UB President, in reaction to the reports reaching his office that the school had stopped accepting first year nursing students.

Rumors spreading in some municipalities regarding the alleged closure of the first year nursing were confirmed during the school campaigns conducted by the university personnel in the secondary schools in the province. Although the malicious mis-information were clarified during the open fora among high school students and faculty in the different secondary schools, the same stories also scattered within the city.

Responding on the negative reports, Atty. Tirol disclosed that the College of Nursing even published in the local newspapers the schedules of its entrance examinations for incoming first year nursing students. The recent UB brochures distributed and the latest newspapers advertisements clearly include the course in Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and its master’s degrees. With the new multi million and fully air-conditioned building and the state-of-the art laboratory equipments, the College of Nursing of the University of Bohol is gearing towards academic excellence. In fact, aside from its usual high passing average, the college recently produced a 7^th placer in the nursing board examination, Tirol added.
