UB T/HM celebrates 16th college days

The University of Bohol College of Tourism/Hospitality Management (T/HM) will have its 16th college day’s celebration on August 21 to 22, 2009 at the university gymnasium and quadrangle.

Dean Ma. Asuncion Laxa-Bersabal disclosed that this year’s celebration will focus on the revival of boholano culture, particularly in games and in literary -musical competition. Aside from the usual sportsfest, the college will include the native games such as: maring-maring, bato-lata, sato, birahanay, tagoanay, tubig-tubig, bagol-bagol, litik, julinay and bihaganay. In the literary- musical contest the students will compete in harana, balak, drama-drama and sabay.

Leading the preparation of the activity is the student government of T/HM composed of Julius Genita, governor. Kelly Ian Vestil, vice governor, Steffani Marie Cagampang, secretary, Maritess Jaictin, treasurer, Nicolas Andrei Bunao, auditor, and board members Jennifer Abucejo, Daryl Balbuena, Wilnet Ryan Bersabe, Desiree Bongcahig, Gaudencio Galleros, Kim Garcia, James Michael Ramayla, Renato Salomon and Joy Shermae Serafico.

VDT-ALC pupil shines in internat'l math competition

Eloisa Jean S. Remoreras, a grade 5 pupil of the Victoriano D. Tirol- Advance Learning Center (VDT-ALC) had recently bagged honors when she ranked 3rd in the individual category during the 2009 China Primary Mathematical Olympiad held last August 9-14, 2009, in Tianjin City, China.

Remoreras’ consistent outstanding performance in the training has qualified her to represent the country for the said international competition along with other members of the Philippine team. She is one of the few pupils of VDT-ALC who participated in the international math competition.

With the recent feat, VDT-ALC had again proved its competence and excellence in the academic field.

UB grads hurdle board exams

Two graduates of the University of Bohol Department of Nutrition and Dietetics recently passed the Nutrition and Dietetics board examination held last month.

Dean Ma. Asuncion Laxa-Bersabal of the College of Tourism/Hospitality Management (T/HM), who concurrently announced the following board passers: Melben Jumo-Lachman and Rosjean Docoy Lampara.

With the recent result, UB posted a 66-percent passing average when two out of its three examinees hurdled the board examination.

UB started offering Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2004. Presently, it has tied up with the Nutrition and Dietetics Association of the Philippines (NDAP)-Bohol Chapter for the promotion of the BSND course in the province.

On the other hand, UB College of Allied Medical Sciences (CAMS) Caregiver Program once again posted a 100-percent passing mark in the TESDA Competency Assessment Examination for Caregiving National Certificate II held last August 1 at Martha Skills Training and Assessment Center, Tagbilaran City.

Dr. Jeimylo de Castro, college dean, announced that all ten examinees from the university passed the examination conducted by TESDA.

The new caregivers and National Certificate II holders are Mercedes Apat, Mary Grace Bajamudi, Jeffrey Bonghanoy, Maureen Clayton, Shan Jefferson De Leon, Monnaliza Grado, Maria Kristine Operario, Alexander Sinon, Roseller Tabacon, and Ma. Cristy Vallespin.

In the province, only UB offers a caregiver program in a university-level category.

Under this level, the students, aside from the usual classroom discussions, can also avail of medical/dental services, fully air-conditioned lecture rooms, complete library, student services wherein the students have their assigned guidance counselors, equipped Instructional Media Center, and efficient internet centers.

The school also has specialized training centers for the practicum to include; University of Bohol Medical Rehabilitation Center, IMAP Lying-in Center for Obstetrics and Pediatric, Ramiro Community Hospital for in-patient exposure and Soledad Suites for hotel exposure, and home care.
