Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol, Jr., executive vice president and chief operation officer of the University of Bohol was recently awarded as one of The Outstanding Boholanos Around the World (TOBAW 2009) in the field of education, during the awarding rites held last July 25, 2009 at the Dagohoy Grand Ballroom, Bohol Tropics Resort, this city.
The prestigious award is aimed at giving public recognition to Boholanos who have manifested exemplary competence in their fields of endeavor and whose community and humanitarian involvement have significantly contributed to the Boholano community and the world. TOBAW is given every three (3) years and is a project of Tigum Bol-anon sa Tibuok Kalibutan, the Province of Bohol, and the First Consolidated Bank, with the cooperation of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, Bohol Chronicle and Radio Station DYRD, and the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Born in Buenavista, Bohol, Dr. Will Tirol (as fondly called by the members of the UB family) obtained his six masters degrees and two Ph.D. degrees from the University of Bohol, University of Santo Thomas and Silliman University. He is married to Dr. Cristeta Balili-Tirol and blessed with two sons Victoriano Tirol III and Will Tyron.
As a lawyer and educator by profession, Dr. Tirol served for many years as schools division superintendent and regional director of the Department of Education until his retirement. As national president of the Philippine Public School Teachers, Employees Association (PPSTEA), Tirol initiated the amendment of the Magna Carta for Public Schools. Dr. Tirol founded Cristal e College, Informatics Computer Institute Bohol, and Galeria Ventures (a computer school) in Quezon City
