UB stude-artists represent Bohol


The UB College of Architecture and Fine Arts joined the 10th Visayan Island Exhibit- Conference (VIVA Ex-Con) held last November 27-29, 2008 in Cebu City.

The VIVA Ex-Con is a gathering of artist all over Visayas and it is considered as the longest running exhibit conference of professionals and non-professional artists. “USWAG LAMBIGIT BISAYA! Is the concept of the exhibition which is focused on the notion and practice of artistic collaboration.

The Boholano student artists were headed by fine arts instructress Ms Sandra de la Serna Lee, Ms Arlene Sy and Ms Malou Lonitmingao and two other professional artists Joey Labrador and Guy Custudio. The 28 UB architecture and fine arts students are as follows: Jonathan Paul Mutuc, Midas Mel Sarabia, Shirley Joy Araña, Genebeth Operiano, Nikko Neil Gida, Maria Theodora Galarido, Melvin Lumagod, Joezel Acuzar, Jolas Regonas, Gian Carlo Lim, May Ian Reformina, Carlos Kiven Tajale, Ralph Hyren Cepe, Shiela Segundo, Leslie Pasagad, Virgil Ryan Hora, Joseph Llido, Cindy Arcaya, Jefferson Boja, Ma. Conception Waluhan, John Kenneth Uycoque, Benedict Enerio, Arizza Nancy Jule Tirol, Abande Apao, Teddy Dumalag, Ma. Theresa Adag, and Teresito Madera.

Ms. Bea Zobel Jr., Mr Ino Manalo,Congressman Edgar Chatto, and the Center for the Culture and Fine Arts are the main sponsors of the delegation.

During the exhibit the Boholano student’s have the opportunity to show their design in making an “orna”, an ornament where Boholanos are known to house their saints, and the chance to share the beauty, importance and uniqueness of the rich culture and heritage of the Boholano’s.


The VIVA EX-Con is a venue for all Visayan artists to show their skills and talent in the restoration, preservation and conservation of the rich culture of the Filipinos. (by:Michalle W. Guillena)

Tirol heads Regional Association of higher educational institutions

Heads of school and presidents of higher educational institutions of Region VII attended a consultative meeting called by Dr. Emmanuel Y. Angeles, Chairman of the Commission on Higher Education last January 21, 2009 at the function hall of the University of the Visayas in Cebu City.

The meeting was called to address organizational concerns with respect to the Presidential Task Force on Education (PTFE) recommendations on higher education reforms and development.

Dr. Angeles emphasized the all colleges and universities, whether private and government run must position and be ready for global competitiveness towards the new higher education highway. College graduates of school from the Philippines must be competitive with graduates of schools from other countries for them to have a better chance of being gainfully employed especially abroad.

Possible reforms and new developments concerning the higher education were presented by Dr. Angeles to almost two hundred (200) heads and presidents of schools of the region.

Highlight of the meeting was the election of officers for the Regional Association of Higher Educational Institutions (RAHEI) CHED region VII. Atty. David B. Tirol, Ph.D, president of the University of Bohol was elected president of the said association.

Other officers are : Dr. Henry Sojo of NORSU, as vice president; Dr. A. Cabatingan of University of Southern Philippines Foundation as secretary; Members of the board of trustees are: Dr. Thomas Ramos of Talisay City College, Dr. B. Manning of QMI; Dr. B. Malayang III of Silliman University; Dr. Barcelo of University of Cebu; and Dr. Villanueva of CSTC.

Atty. Gonzalo Doque, president of the Philippines Association of Colleges and Universities and other officials of the Commission on Higher Education national office were also in attendance.

UB, BPPO2 inks MOA on therapeutic community.


The University of Bohol and the Bohol Parole and Probation Office 2 (BBPO2) have entered a Memorandum of Agreement on Therapeutic Community Modality for Parolees and Probationers Project to be implemented in BPPO2 of Tubigon with Sub-Office in Talibon, Bohol.

The signing of the MOA was held at the UB President’s Office last December 9, 2008. The University of Bohol was represented by her President Atty. David B. Tirol while SPPO1 Juanito B. Bangcoy represented the BPPO2. The purpose of the project is to promote human and social transformation among the probationers and parolees. The project proponent will provide technical assistance and help source out funds. The Colleges of Liberal Arts, Criminology, Business and Accountancy, UB Civic Welfare Training Services, And UB Community Extension Service Office are involved in the implementation of the project.
